Profile - Cornelia Perthes

Cornelia PerthesCornelia Perthes was born in Thuringia, eastern Germany, in 1950. She grew up in the State of Hesse, western Germany, developing a love of language and translation during her schooldays.

A year studying languages and business at a private language school was followed by applied linguistics with Spanish and English at the University of Heidelberg. She was awarded a degree in translation in 1975.

Cornelia was employed as an in-house translator at print/paper specialist Maschinenfabrik GOEBEL GmbH in Darmstadt for five years. In the early 1980s, she moved to North Rhine-Westphalia, where she spent the next 11 years at plant engineering specialist Didier Engineering GmbH, Essen, as a translator and as a secretary to the board of management.

Since 1995, Cornelia has been self-employed, collaborating closely with Petra Waldraff. She is a member of translator/interpreter associations ATICOM and BDÜ, a court-appointed translator for English and Spanish, and accredited with the Spanish Consulate General in Düsseldorf.

She has experience in a wide range of demanding technical and business texts, and is adept at mastering the challenges presented by new, complex subject matter.
